SIBU: The alleged move by the Ministry of Education to transfer 80,000 teachers from the Peninsular Malaysia to Sarawak was condemned by a local Parti Rakyat Sarawak (PRS) leader.
Councillor Senaun Jaya from Meradong District Council saw no logic for the transfer, saying there were more than enough Sarawakian teachers to fill the posts. He supported an earlier statement made by PRS president Dato Sri Dr James Masing who also questioned the move of the Education Ministry to transfer the teachers, including religious teachers, to Sarawak.
“There are still many jobless Sarawakians who have got their degrees in certain field. If there are not enough teachers in Sarawak, these jobless Sarawakians, should be recruited for the posts,” Senaun said.
He said the proposed move by the ministry would definitely create a huge impact on the teaching profession. He did not rule out the possibility that it might become a big issue in view of the coming general election.
“Since the people of Sarawak still give a strong mandate to the BN government, I therefore view this move as a stab in the back of the Sarawakians,” added Senaun.
Senaun said the people in Sarawak would never allow those from the Peninsula to meddle in the affairs of Sarawak.
He said he remained steadfastly behind the BN government but it was this alleged move by the Ministry of Education that prompted him to make such statement.
