30,335 Diploma Teachers Promoted to Graduate Scheme

  NR       Friday, September 28, 2012

KUALA LUMPUR: A total of 30,335 teachers under the Diploma Education Officer Service (PPPLD) scheme were promoted to the Graduate Education Officer Service (PPPS) scheme from 2005 to Sept 11.

Deputy Education Minister Datuk Dr Wee Ka Siong said the announcement by Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin on improvement in renumeration and shorter promotion duration had encouraged diploma teachers to further their studies at the tertiary level to obtain a degree for promotion to the graduate teacher service scheme.

“It is a flexible way to move from PPPLD to PPPS. The teaching experience as PPPLD teachers however has not been abolished,” he said.

He was replying to a question from Datuk Dr Mohamad Shahrum Osman (Barisan Nasional-Lipis) on the development of non-graduate teachers to graduate scheme at the Dewan Rakyat, here yesterday.

Wee explained that the qualification of PPPLD grade DG32 teachers on personal to holder (KUP) basis had been approved by the Education Service Promotion Board (LKPPP).

“If the PPPLD grade DG32 teachers have been apointed to the graduate scheme at grade DG41 earlier than those who were promoted on time-based grade DG32 KUP, then the teacher would not be eligible for consideration for promotion,” he said. — Bernama
