  NR       Friday, September 28, 2012

NILAI, Sept 13 — The status of over 10,200 Bachelor of Education graduates, who have yet to be offered teaching jobs, will be known when the 2013 Budget is presented on Sept 28.

Higher Education Minister Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin hoped the graduates would be patient as their position would be announced by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak in the budget speech.

"The unemployment of Bachelor of Education graduates has become an issue as they were not offered jobs by the Education Ministry after getting their degrees.

"However, the matter has been resolved, but it will only be announced by the prime minister when he presented the budget," Mohamed Khaled told reporters after opening the Nilai Polytechnic here today.

To a question, Mohamed Khaled said he had no idea what the announcement would be, but he hoped it would be good news for the graduates.

In another development, he said the ministry was in the process of improving the quality of academic programmes at polytechnics and increasing the number of degrees offered. The polytechnics are offering over 10 degree programmes in engineering, commerce and services, and over 12,000 applications had been received for this year's intake, he added. — Bernama
