MUKAH: The decision by the
government to introduce basic vocational subject in some 50 selected secondary
schools nationwide starting next year (2012) is yet another step in
transforming our vocational and technical education system.
This is in order to produce more
semi-skilled and skilled human capital, said Minister of Welfare, Women and
Family Development Datuk Fatimah Abdullah.
Fatimah called on members of the teaching fraternity, particularly
teachers, to be committed and dedicated in teaching basic vocational subject in
order to produce quality human capital who are knowledgeable, competitive and
dynamic, capable of filling ample vacancies created by multi-national companies
operating in our country as well as abroad.
Fatimah made the remarks in her speech at SMK Three Rivers Mukah
50th Excellent Award presentation ceremony held at the school hall yesterday.
Fatimah was the guest-of-honour at the function attended by
chairman of Mukah Dalat District Council (MDDM) Walikota Ali Suhaili, Mohd
Yusri Azhar Abdullah (representing Mukah District Education Officer), principal
Bidin Abas, chairman of Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) Mustapha Sidek,
parents, teachers and students.
Speaking at length on ample vacancies to be created by
multi-national companies and economic spin-offs available under Sarawak

it is very important for unemployed graduates and job-seekers to have a
positive outlook on employment in the private sector that offered more
vacancies, greater opportunities and better prospects when compared to the
government or public service.
The Dalat assemblywoman, who is an alumna of SMK Three Rivers
Mukah, announced a minor rural project (MRP) grant of RM10,000 to the school’s
