MIRI: Fijian Malcalm Prateel Prasad, a scholarship holder sponsored by a local company, Naim Holdings Berhad, touched down here early yesterday.
He was welcomed by Naim’s sales and marketing general manager Alice Ting with other Naim staff at Miri Airport.
Prasad is one of the two students selected for the first batch of Naim Trust Fund Fiji Scholarship.
“The Naim Trust Fund Scholarship is a scheme established as part of the company’s Corporate Social Responsibility programme,” said Alice Ting.
She added that the scholarship, which were introduced in 2005, covered full academic fees, lodging and books.
Initially, the scholarship was available only to local students.
However, in view of Naim’s presence in Fiji, the company decided to make available the scholarships to qualified Fijian students, she said.
This scholarship award is the first batch awarded to students from outside Malaysia.
Managing director of Naim Holdings Berhad, Datuk Hasmi Hasnan, announced the successful recipients of the Naim Trust Fund Fiji Scholarship in May last year.
Prasad and fellow Fijian, Nitin Nitesh Chand – who arrived last week – are fully sponsored by Naim Holdings Berhad to pursue their higher education at Curtin University of Technology Sarawak Campus.
