KUCHING: The Ministry of Education has approved RM9.92 million for the upgrading and maintenance of aided Chinese primary schools in the state.
SUPP president Datuk Seri Peter Chin, who announced this yesterday, said the deserving schools would soon receive their respective grants this year.
“This fund came to us after Deputy Education Minister Datuk Dr Wee Ka Siong visited Kuching, Sibu, Miri and Bintulu recently.
“I have been told that the RM9.92 million are meant to help many schools in their infrastructure development such as school classes, building repairs, toilets and even car parks.
“I do not have the list of the recipient schools with me but I believe the list will be released quite soon,” he told a news conference at the SUPP headquarters here.
Chin, who is Minister of Energy, Green Technology and Water, pointed out that he together with Minister of Natural Resources and Environment Dato Sri Douglas Uggah Embas would bid for similar fund for mission schools in Sarawak.
“The RM9.92 million is good news for the Chinese primary schools in Sarawak. We would like to inform that similar type of grants would be channelled to mission schools.
“However, the total figure is still being finalised.”
On an unrelated matter, Chin said he and SUPP secretary-general Prof Dr Sim Kui Hian and deputy president Datuk Richard Riot had been invited to attend the state Barisan Nasional (BN) meeting scheduled for 3pm today (March 3).
“Yes, we were asked to attend the state BN meeting at the PBB headquarters.
“The invitation was sent by state BN secretary-general Datuk Dr Stephen Rundi.”
