A student who was going to get his wage from a part time job was assaulted when he accidentally hit a drunkard Monday night. He succumbed to his injuries at 3 am today.

Mathew Roker ak John Wayne, 18 from Kampung Pingiran, Mile 14 Jalan Penrissen used to help his teacher’s friend to plant cocoa in his free time and was asked to collect his two weeks wages at Mile 11 Jalan Penrissen at about 9 pm.
Mathew’s uncle Bobby ak Jaii said he was told that his nephew accidently hit a drunkard pedestrian. Four persons then set themselves on Mathew causing him to collapse.
Bobby said when he heard of the accident, he rushed to the scene and saw that Mathew was badly injured with eyes and face swollen and wounds all over his head and body.
The Rescue 991 rushed Mathew to the Sarawak General hospital and he passed away without gaining conscious.
The pedestrian did not have any identity card on him and was also brought to the hospital. He sustained minor injuries but was too drunk to give any information.
Police went to the scene after a police report was lodged. A suspect had been arrested for questioning.
