Police: Teen Staged Kidnap

  NR       Sunday, December 11, 2011

THE search for 19-year-old Shirra Alissa George ended after investigations revealed that she had staged a struggle, as well as making a distress call to her mother -- all so she could run away from home in November.

Police said the KL International Multimedia University student was found at her boyfriend's rented house in Taman Danau Kota, Kuala Lumpur on Tuesday.

Selangor Criminal Investigation Department chief Senior Assistant Commissioner Mohd Adnan Abdullah said Shirra was not kidnapped.

"It was revealed that she had made up a story that she was kidnapped to run away from home.

"We have since picked up her 23-year-old boyfriend for questioning. He works as a waiter in the area and they have been together for quite a long time."

Adnan said Shirra was also believed to be pregnant. However, police are awaiting a  medical report.

He urged the public not to make up stories involving crimes as the case had impacted many parties.

"Not only that, it put pressure on the family.  It affected the police force as well.

"We are now determining the offences committed by the two before going to the deputy public prosecutor," he said.

Asked if the two demanded a ransom from the family, Adnan said "no".

"Although her belongings were scattered by the roadside, it was only to make the so-called kidnapping look real.

"No ransom was demanded by any of them," he said, adding that Shirra had since  returned to her family.

On Nov 14, Shirra was reported missing  about 9pm along Jalan Bukit Indah 3/14, Bukit Indah, Ampang after disembarking from a RapidKL bus from Kuala Lumpur.

Initial reports stated that Shirra, a Sarawakian, was walking back to her Tiara Intan condominium when she was forced into a black Proton Persona with three men inside.

She had allegedly called her mother on her handphone and screamed that she was being chased before the line went dead.

Her father and a few residents rushed to the street and found her personal belongings, including her handphone, an empty purse,  a torn backpack and  books, strewn on the ground. The father later lodged a report at the Ampang police station.
