A group of students made a citizen arrest as an armed suspect pretend to return a mobile phone he robbed on Sunday.
The suspect aged 19 from Batu Lintang had in his shirt a parang when he returned the victim’s mobile phone at noon today at MJC.
According to the victim Helmi aged 20, he and his brother from Betong stayed at the shophouse in MJC. Helmi said he used to double lock his motorcycle and chained it as his brother warned him that there were a lot of motorcycles stolen in the area.
At 11 pm yesterday Helmi who studied in Kuching said he was chaining his motorcycle when a man grabbed him by his neck and pointed a knife at him. Another person then approached him and took his motorcycle away. Helmi then jotted down the number of the motorcycle after handing over his phone.
The two brothers with friends went around looking for the motorcycle and saw the suspect with a group of friends outside an entertainment centre. The suspect then shouted to the group to settle the matter and not to lodge any police report.
Helmi went ahead to lodge the report and this afternoon, he saw the suspect walking towards him. The suspect said he wanted the matter to be settled. Helmi’s friend grabbed the suspect and searched him. They found he had a parang in his shirt. Police were called and the suspect arrested and detained for questioning.
